This Is Called Required Rationing!

I don't know anything about this paper. Generally where there is smoke, there is fire so whether the story is entirely true or not, someone must be talking about it to provoke the story. Anyone know the reputation of this Paper or heard anything else about the story?

The story was emailed to me, I thought it would be of interest to all who would doubt the possibility of health care rationing and others who are so enamored with uk's health care plan.

It only makes logical sense that as more people enter the program, costs go up. At some point as in this case, the government has to do something to contain the costs. You can only do so much to eliminate fraud and abuse, until you have to cut services.

Ron B - the torygraph as we call it always goes to furthest right wing. The NHS actually has one of the only ring fenced budgets in the UK - for sure they will see a lack of growth in budgets - but cuts no. this is scaremongering at it worse on behalf of this paper IMO

Hi, Soph, there's a new term for us, mind a discription of the term 'ring fenced budget'?

Have you heard anything else about the items in the article? I did notice a couple of things that make a certain measure of sense. Ie, sending terminal patients home at some point as long as they have a caregiver. My brother passed away less than 2 weeks ago. He was asked if he wanted to go home or to a hospice facility. Obviously he wanted to be at home and hard as it was on his wife, she preferred it also. In that situation, what would have been the point in his staying in the hospital? The important question though was, did he have a caregiver at home.

Ron - I have to say that end of life care is superb on the NHS - you might have to wait in A&E on a Saturday night and you are pissed and need stitches - and honestly the NHS is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination - but they will do their utmost and truly do so at end of life. Righties wanting to privatise HC or abolish it all together are not a fair barometer IMO.

I fully believe the 'people' involved will do everything they can, it's what the government is liable to do that's potentially a problem.

It would be nice I think if this article proves to be untrue.

Is it all "righties", or is it more people who are truely concerned about the deficit?

Ron - every one is concerned about the deficit - people have no idea how deeply the spending cuts are going to impact them when they come fully into force next year! The debate is about what to cut - not whether we need cuts at all. IMO those on the right tend to reflect more the republican viewpoint of each man for himself.

That isn't quite right, Soph. It isn't totally everyone for themselves, but it's do what has to be done and do it responsibly. The country can not afford all these welfare programs, especially in the current economic situation.

There are lots of ways to provide health care for those who can't afford it without a massive overhaul bill that contains 8 or 9 new taxes. The democrats are disingenuous when they say the HCB won't cost us anything. We all know it will, just adding in the 'DR. fix makes it lose anything it might have gained.

If you listen to what they are doing, they are adding things to things that have nothing to do with them, just a way to sneak it in. Everyone wants to call repubs the party of no, they are saying no to this kind of stuff and being blamed for it not passing when the Dems have a majority. They can pass anything they want to if they themselves can get together.

I'm not a cold hearted person, but 99 weeks of unemployment insurance guarantees people will keep drawing rather than look for another line of work. I remember when I 1st knew of unenployment, it was 26 weeks full and 26 @ 1/2, and that was it. You had a year to find some kind of work. It wasn't nearly what you could make working either. So you got off your butt and found something, anything to have an income.

Things like cap and trade will do nothing to help the climate, but it will put a lot of money into the government and a lot of peoples pockets, including of course, Al Gore.

This country has managed all these years without all these progressives programs, why do we have to have them now?

This government has got to stop spending, but you can't have all these programs if you can't spend.

They want to talk about things like a value added tax. It will cause everything anyone buys to cost more, hitting every pocket book in the U.S.

              And on and on....

Love - I was talking about the UK! however I do have to say that one of the things I am most proud of in my nation is that if you can't do for yourself there is a proper and fully funded safety net to catch you. Don't get me wrong - if you can work and can get a job - i am not happy to pay for you - but if you can't work or can't find a job - hell what's mine is yours - there but for the grace of god. Same thing with the NHS - I pay much more in taxes than I will ever get back - but if I ever had a life threatening illness I will be treated for free - i will not lose my home and i will have enough money to survive while I am getting through it. That is the difference between us and the US - to an extent you guys have a survival of the fittest mentality we have a to the least amongst us mentality. And if that means the richest and the fittest have a little bit less we are ok with it. And trust me they tax me hard.... I think our nations priorities towards our citizens are very different.

Now don't get me wrong - how we execute in reality is inefficient and wasteful but at the heart of it is the individual - not a process IMO

BTW you already have VAT - it is called Sales tax!

Soph, the current 'sales tax' is per city and state. Not all cities and not all states have sales tax.

Also, it is a point of retail sales, tax, a vat is a tax that taxes every step of improvement throughout the manufacturing process. Multiple taxes are assigned in a vat.

We also have free health care, called medicaid, if you qualify.

It's beginning to look like yours is beginning to crumble a bit.
